Research Strategies

Some useful tips and strategies for successfully finding books and videos in the UFV library.

  • Start with some simple keywords or phrases
  • Use AND to combine keywords (such as Indigenous peoples AND economic empowerment)
  • Use OR to combine similar concepts (such as universities OR colleges OR higher education)
  • Use truncation symbol * to retrieve results with variant endings. (such as ethic* will retrieve ethic, ethics, ethical)
  • Do a phrase search using quotation marks (such as "workplace communication")
  • Results are sorted by relevancy but you can sort them by date
  • Use the Subject search to improve your results

Keywords vs. Subject Headings

A short video from the University of Otago, Wellington, New Zealand,  explaining the two concepts.

The University of the Fraser Valley is situated on the traditional territory of the Stó:lō peoples. The Stó:lō have an intrinsic relationship with what they refer to as S’olh Temexw (Our Sacred Land), therefore we express our gratitude and respect for the honour of living and working in this territory.
