CBC/Radio-Canada is celebrating Black History Month with rich and diverse special programming that showcases the stories, experiences and achievements of Black communities in Canada.

As a British Columbia post-secondary institution located on S’olh Temexw, the territory of the Stó:lō people, UFV recognizes the diversity of its population, the importance of creating and implementing equity, and exploring the ways in which inclusion can and should take place.

"Anti-Black racism, Anti-Indigenous racism, Anti-Asian racism, transphobia, homophobia, and xenophobia (all of these are compounded for individuals with intersecting identities), aren’t events or moments that happen once or twice, or happen somewhere else. These are symptoms of longstanding and deep-rooted systemic inequities and discrimination that exist here as well as across the world, and all of this require a serious, collective, and continuous commitment to action in order to be reconciled."

The British Columbia Black History Awareness Society celebrates the achievements of Black people in British Columbia by creating an awareness of the history of Blacks in B.C., stimulating interest in the contributions of persons of African ancestry to B.C. and Canada today, and celebrating historical and contemporary achievements in the arts, education, government, sports, science.

Black History Ottawa (BHO) is a registered Canadian charity with a mandate to advance education by increasing the public’s knowledge and appreciation of, and carrying out research in the history, culture, traditions and achievements of Canadians of African descent.

The Black Loyalist Heritage Society is a dynamic, charitable organization committed to discovering, interpreting, safeguarding, and promoting the history and heritage of the Black Loyalists. For over thirty years, the society has worked to ensure the chronicles and contributions of the Black Loyalists takes its place with other communities that shape Canada’s cultural mosaic.

The New Brunswick Black History Society is dedicated to the research, analysis, documentation and preservation of New Brunswick's Black History. The NBBHS gathers information concerning New Brunswick's Black residents, past and present, promotes awareness of New Brunswick's Black history, encourages the Black community and the general public to work together and works towards increasing the presence of Black History in New Brunswick's educational system.

Since 1996, the Government of Canada’s annual Black History Month campaign encourages all Canadians to learn more about Black history in Canada. Below are highlights of significant events that have contributed to the story of Black Canadians and their communities, and the impact that they have made to all parts of society well before the land we live on was even called Canada.

The content is available for free, though it is at the discretion of the institution providing the content. The newspapers contained within guide are those that have ceased to operate or are currently running papers with archives available.
