Introduction

A search in the UFV Library catalogue for almost any subject now brings up titles identified as "E-Book on the Internet". These are electronic versions of complete books or documents from a number of different sources, including EBSCOhost, ebrary, Myilibrary, Oxford Reference, Gale Virtual Reference, Sage, Canadian Electronic Library Publishers Collection, and Springerlink.

To view these titles, just click on the URL link in the catalogue record. From on campus, the titles will open on your computer screen.  From off campus,  most titles require authentication. (Off campus access details). Please remember to turn off your popup blocker.

What is the Difference between a Subscription Collection and a Purchased one?

The content in a subscription package is likely to change. Usually user access is unlimited.

The content in a purchased collection in permanent and will not change. Access varies from 1 to unlimited concurrent users.

How Many Students Can Look at the Book at One Time?

Look at this item in the library catalogue http://library.ufv.ca/uhtbin/cgisirsi/x/0/0/5?searchdata1=356729{CKEY}. Click on Catalog Record and half way down the Access Restriction information is listed. This information is available for most of our e-books.

Adobe Digital Editions

Adobe Digital Editions is a free software program used to download and purchase digital content, read content online or offline, organize a custom library, make page annotations in content, and transfer DRM-protected content to other devices.

This software is necessary if you want to download UFV Library ebooks onto personal devices or a home computer. Adobe Digital Editions will automatically set "due dates" based on UFV licensing agreements, and your downloaded ebooks will be de-activated after the loan period. These loan periods are not the same as the ones for the UFV Library print collection.

You are required to create an account with Adobe in order to use Adobe Digital Editions.

Other ebook reader software is available, but will not necessarily work with the ebooks available through the UFV Library.

PRIVACY ALERT:

Recently, it has been discovered that the new Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 software scans the hard drives of personal computers and sends unencrypted data back to Adobe servers. This is a serious privacy concern that has yet to be addressed by Adobe.

For maximum privacy, it is recommended that you only download  Adobe Digital Editions 3.0.
