TED is a non-profit that believes powerful ideas, powerfully presented, move us: to feel something, to think differently, to take action. [From Website]
Notice there are no powerpoints, just a person, like you, presenting their ideas with passion.
There are a lot of quotes out there. As we are in University, one of the first things we need to think about when looking for quotes is who said it.
Try to avoid Anonymous, Anon or Unknown. We don't know who said it and we want to know because we want people who stand behind their words. If you know of a person you respect, use their name as part of your search: Marie Battiste, Maya Angelou, John Dewey.
Try to double-check the quote. Find it in a book. Find it in a speech transcript. Make sure the person really did write it or say it.
For example look here:
Notice how the first quote is attributed to Oscar Wilde.
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
― Oscar Wilde
But if you search to find where it was said/written you find more information about how Oscar Wilde didn't say it.
Remember to evaluate the quote and where it is from using our various website evaluation steps:
Also remember to limit your google searches to reputable sites:
inspirational quotes education site:edu
mindset quotes site:ac.uk
(Unfortunately Canada doesn't have specific domains for Universities so you might just have to do something like: site:.ubc.ca)
