OpenAthens is our authentication method to help you access the library's licensed resources such as journals, e-books, streaming video and databases.
Sign in with your UFV email address and myClass password.
You also may have to do the Multi-factor authentication (MFA) so have your cellphone handy.
This sign in method means you'll be able to sign in though your institution from many different places, including Google, publisher websites, and more.
This video shows you what OpenAthens looks like, including the first time you sign in. You may find you do not need to do the multifactor authentication (not needed on campus, and sometimes not needed off campus) but have included that part just in case you do.

OpenAthens offers another route to authentication for many of our licensed resources; wherever you see the OpenAthens icon, you can use the Sign in via institution link. So whether you started with Google or Google Scholar, searched from your favourite journal or publisher's web site, or followed a link to a resource someone shared with you, you'll find it easier to access the resources.
Even better, once you've signed in, you'll be authenticated for the next 8 hours, no matter where you go on the web, even if you close your browser and open a new one several hours later. So when you want to access a different library resource, you'll already be signed in.
There are a number of other benefits, some for the library, and some for you. Here are a few of them:
One thing, is you will be expected to login on and off campus. When you are on campus, you will not have to use the MFA (multifactor authentication). If you are off campus, you will need to download the Microsoft Authenticator app to allow the MFA process to occur. Your login details will be the same as your login for MyClass (BlackBoard).
Faculty who embed links to the library's resources into their Blackboard courses or other course materials will need to make links to work with OpenAthens. You can either do it yourself using our OpenAthens link generator or use our course reading list service and we'll do it for you.
