Targeted Web Searching

Want a really useful tip for searching the web? Use the site: limiter:

  • site:ca - limits searches to websites ending in .ca
  • site:org - limits searches to websites ending in .org
  • site:gc.ca - limits searches to Canadian government web sites
  • site:gov.bc.ca - limits searches to BC government web sites
  • site:vancouver.ca - limits searches to the City of Vancouver web site
  • site:gc.ca OR site:gov.bc.ca - limit searches to Canadian or BC government web sites

For the last one, you may need to do a web search to find the correct domain (e.g., "city of [fill in name of city]").
