PSYC 221, Introduction to Cognitive Psychology (Shannon Wright)

Using SportDiscus Instead of PsycINFO

So you have probably tried to search PsycINFO for your topic about sports and unfortunately you didn't find much. That is because there is a better database to use.

It has a thesaurus and cited reference search like PsycINFO; however, does not include a methodology limiter.

So when you search in SportDiscus with Full Text make sure you add to your search terms: method* (this helps you search the words method, methods or methodology) and you should find your results are research/empirical studies.

You can also search both SportDiscus and PsycINFO at the same time. To choose additional databases, they must also be from EBSCO. Click on the title of the current database (above the search box), and then you will see a list with all the EBSCO databases listed. Click on the databases that you want and click Select. (The image below shows how to search PsycINFO, PschARTICLES, and SportDiscus all at the same time.)

Remember to double-check that the results you find are research studies!
