PSYC 221, Introduction to Cognitive Psychology (Shannon Wright): Sports Psychology Topics

Using SportDiscus instead of PsycINFO

So you have probably tried to search PsycINFO for your topic about sports and unfortunately you didn't find much. That is because there is a better database to use.

It has a thesaurus and cited reference search like PsycINFO but it is missing the methodology limiter.

So when you search in SportDiscus with Full Text make sure you add to your search terms: method* (this helps you search the words method, methods or methodology) and you should find your results are research/empirical studies.

Screenshot of search of SPORTDISCUS database, the word method with asterix in search field is in a red box and so are Full text and Scholarly Journals Limiters.

You can also search both SportDiscus and PsycINFO at the same time by clicking on the choose databases link above the search boxes. The star on the image shows you where to locate the choose databases link, which in turn, will open a box with all the EBSCO databases listed. Look for the databases that you want and hit OK.

Remember to double-check that the results you find are research studies!
