Search Tips

Some helpful strategies for successfully finding books in the UFV library:

  1. Keep your search words fairly broad; try starting with just the main concept e.g, Children.

  2. To focus your list of results to books, use the categories on the right (e.g., "Family, Marriage, Women" "Psychology..." "Social Service..." the category headings vary with each keyword search).

  3. When looking at the list of book results remember that books "on order" are not available for use and books that are "just received" need a hold placed on them in order for them to be made available.

  4. Choose the book you want and click on the title.

  5. You will then be able to look up more details of the book by highlighting "Item Information," "Click her to view this item" or "Catalog Record." Under "Catalog Record" you will find subject terms that describe your topic; these will also help you focus your search.

  6.

  7. Look for a common call number (e.g., HQ), then head to that section of the shelves and browse.
