Questions to Ask About Research

  1. Does the source have authority to make significant and relatively unbiased contributions to the conversation?
  2. What are the qualifications of the contributor(s)?
  3. Does the source offer important information that will help you in constructing your argument/your response to the question you have asked?
  4. Will you cite the source in your essay or is it only useful to provide you with background information that you need in order to feel confident about taking part in the conversation?
  5. Have you recorded all the relevant information to include on your Works Cited or References page?
  6. Do you have a system for organizing information in the source that you will cite?
  7. Do you have enough sources to give you a strong, thorough, confident conclusion/thesis/answer to your question or hypothesis?
