Streaming Video Collections

Through its streaming video collections, the library provides access to thousands of videos online. This guide offers instructions on how to provide access to these collections for teaching purposes.

How-to Instructions

To find a reusable link (permalink) to a video from these collections:

  1. Search for videos using the search box at the top right of the web page.
  2. From the list of results, click on a video's Title to view the video's details.
  3. Click on the Share button:

  4. Copy the text in the Permalink box to your clipboard:

  5. Using your favourite web editor to create a link on your web page, paste in the Permalink text as the URL.

To find the embed code for a video from these collections:

  1. Search for videos using the search box at the top right of the web page.
  2. From the list of results, click on a video's Title to view the video's details.
  3. Click on the Share button:

  4. Copy the text in the Embedding box to your clipboard:

  5. Paste the embed code into the HTML or source of your web page.

To create a playlist of videos from these collections, you will need to log in to your personal account with Curio.ca. To create an account:

  1. Request the activation code by sending an email to libdatabases@ufv.ca
  2. Click on the Login link (top right of the web page).
  3. Click on the link to register with an access code.
  4. You will receive an email at the address you used in the registration; click on the link to activate your account

To create your playlist:

  1. Search for videos using the search box at the top right of the web page.
  2. From the list of results, click on a video's Title to view the video's details.
  3. Click on the Add to playlist button; if this option is greyed out, you will need to login (see link in top right corner of web page):

  4. Select a playlist from the list, or create a new one:

  5. Close the pop-up box (click the X in the upper right corner).

To share a playlist you have created:

  1. Click on the Account link in the menu at the top of the web page (you will need to be logged in to see it).
  2. Click on Playlists in the menu at the left of the page.
  3. Below your Profile information, you will see a list of the playlists you have created; click on the playlist you want to share.
  4. You will see a list of the videos you have included in this playlist. At this point, you can remove videos from your playlist, or change the order of the videos.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the list; you should see two text boxes:
    • Permalink: copy this text into your clipboard this to create a link to the plalist in your Blackboard course.
    • Embedding: opy this text into your clipboard to embed the playlist in your Blackboard course. Note that if you want to change the size of hte embed window, you must do so before you copy the text.
